Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield

Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield logo

We bake birthday cakes for children in Sheffield who may not otherwise get one on their special day.

Baking Volunteer 2018/19

This opportunity takes place between 06 Sep 2018 and 31 Aug 2019.

At Free Cakes for Kids Sheffield, we bake birthday cakes for children who wouldn't otherwise get a cake, perhaps due to poverty, homelessness, for looked after children or for children who are receiving support from their school. We would like volunteers to bake cakes for the children we support.

What skills do I need?

We don't require any specific skills or knowledge - just an enjoyment of baking! The children we support love any homemade cake - it doesn't matter what your baking skill level. We ask all volunteers to agree to our food hygiene and data protection policies.

What will I gain?

A great feeling of knowing that you have made someone's birthday that extra bit special. Some referrers and families provide feedback to us so you can really see the difference you have made. You will also be able to build on your baking skills, and get ideas and recipes from volunteers and our facebook group. We are also a really close group of volunteers, and you will become a part of a group that is friendly and social - we have meetings throughout the year, which are a social event as well as a chance to update everyone on what has been going on.

Training and support

Induction, including details around data protection and food hygiene. A great support network of other volunteers who also love to bake. We can provide funds towards the cost of ingredients for cakes you are allocated to bake, and help with delivery of the cake if required.

Time commitment

There is no minimum time commitment - you can choose to bake as often or as little as you like. Each year, we will ask if you want to remain on our baking list, or take a break, or of course have the option to not bake - the time commitment is completely down to you.

DBS (criminal records) check

You will bake in your own home. Volunteers deliver to various locations across Sheffield.

Travel information

If you are unable to deliver a cake, we can arrange to collect from you and deliver to the referring organisation.
