Accompanier 2022

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date. Closing date for applications is 21 Jun.

Many ASSIST clients have to report regularly in person to the Home Office building in Sheffield City Centre (Vulcan House). When they do this, they are at risk of being detained indefinitely in an Immigration Removal Centre. Volunteer accompaniers cannot prevent someone from being detained, but they can ensure that ASSIST and other emergency contacts are informed, and can respond immediately. Some clients also ask for support with accessing services in different locations around the city, and an accompanier can enable this by going with them, on public transport where necessary.

Role purpose

  • To accompany clients when they report at Vulcan House, and communicate relevant information to other ASSIST teams.

  • Accompaniment to other agencies within Sheffield e.g. hospital, doctors, solicitor etc following referral from other ASSIST teams.

  • To offer a supportive debrief conversation with clients (if required) in a public place, eg a cafe.

Tasks

  • Accompany an ASSIST client when they report to Vulcan House or other agencies.

  • Record the outcome of accompanying sessions, and any change in circumstances or reporting dates on the ASSIST Civi database.

  • To communicate with other ASSIST teams about safeguarding or other concerns about client well-being.
