Chilypep is the Children and Young People's Empowerment Project

Arabic Interpreter 2018/19

This opportunity takes place between 08 May 2019 and 31 Aug 2019.

Chilypep run a weekly support group for newly arrived and asylum seeking/refugee young people in Sheffield city centre. This group is a space for young people aged 14-25 to: meet and befriend others; help adapt to life in Sheffield; develop skills, confidence and self-esteem. We are looking for volunteer Arabic interpreters to support the language needs of group members. The young people come from a range of backgrounds, including Syria, Sudan and Afghanistan.

What skills do I need?

Proficient, near-fluent or native speaking Arabic. Enthusiasm and the ability to work with children and young people (aged 14-25)

What will I gain?

Experience of working in a highly-regarded Sheffield and South Yorkshire based charity. Experience of working with children and young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Experience of interpreting and an opportunity to use languages with native speakers. The potential for ASDAN accreditation.

Training and support

Chilypep provides the following training and support for all our volunteers: Full volunteer induction; DBS check; ongoing supervision; access to Chilypep training opportunities; ASDAN accreditation where applicable.

The 83 and 83a buses run from the city centre to S5 approximately every 20 minutes.
