We are recruiting volunteers that are bilingual in English and Arabic/Farsi to support some of our health service clients in communication. Health Champion volunteers support people be healthier by interpreting at Zest health appointments and acting as a health buddy.
What skills do I need?
Language skills - blilingual in English and Arabic/Farsi (could apply to other languages also but these are the priority languages).
Friendly and approachable.
Willing to adhere to our confidentiality policy in appointments etc.
What will I gain?
Experience of using interpreting language skills to support people in the local community. Understanding of some of the main barriers affecting access to health services in BME communities. Increased knowledge of diet, nutrition and healthy lifestyle advice given to support those in need of improving their health. Increased confidence and experience in communication and mentoring.
Training and support
We provide initial training and induction to our centre and services. There will be regular supervision from a staff member. Other training opportunities availbale from the council will be available to all volunteers.
We require a minimum time commitment of 8 hours per month for at least 6 months. Exact hours and times are flexible.
