A varied and flexible role to keep our nature reserve looking its very best for our visitors. The role is hands-on and out and about in the fresh air.
Complete daily checks and fix, tidy, enhance and improve things as you notice them to keep the reserve and our visitors' experiences top quality. You might also help with others tasks as a when needed. Opportunity to focus on the parts of the role which appeal to you eg visitor engagement or behind the scenes DIY.
We have secured National Lottery Heritage funding to make RSPB Old Moor even better for our wildlife and visitors and we are looking for a team of people who can take the initiative and make sure that new infrastructure, family trails and public areas of our nature reserve are looking at its very best for our visitors.
You could be working outdoors or indoors, interacting with the public or "behind the scenes" filling bird feeders, checking the wild play equipment, updating notice boards, fixing a bench, helping cover the till in the shop or the welcome desk, showing a visiting family some new wildlife.... each day will be different in this "do what needs doing" role.
You would be part of a team or 5-7 volunteers to cover a rota for the week. You might work in pairs or individually.
What skills do I need?
Happy to volunteer both outside and inside and adaptable to the tasks required of you, which will differ from day to day.
Able to access the reserve, on and off crushed stone paths and carry out maintenance on equipment on rough ground. Happy to be outdoors all day.
Desire to help and lend a hand wherever it is needed and a can do attitude. Proactive and energetic, see what needs to be done and get it done
Good level of awareness- to recognise and strive for high quality.
Cheery, friendly and professional nature, with the confidence to engage members of the public, of all ages.

Training and support
Line management and safeguarding/ GDPR training.
Willingness to undertake the training to enable you to complete the quality control and maintenance volunteer role such as use of hand tools, how to use the till or welcome information.
RSPB uniform, badge and references.
One morning/ afternoon/ day per week. The role will be busier in the Spring and Summer months. Time commitment can be flexible to fit around your studies.

Trains regularly run from Sheffield to Wombwell train station (3 miles/5 km). Swinton (3 miles/5 km). You can cycle from the station to Old Moor via the Transpennine Trail. The site has bike racks.
Buses are infrequent, so please check with local providers before you visit.
