S6 Foodbank are seeing an unprecedented demand for help. They currently support 1000 local families every week with emergency food parcels from 9 sites across the city. This means processing 13 tonnes of food a week and they would love some extra help. See first hand how a food bank operates and the scale of the operation by helping out for a morning sorting and loading food for delivery. Sign up for one session with no commitment but regular slots available if you enjoy it!
What skills do I need?
No specific skills required, but note it is a physical role.
It would be helpful if you have a car and can volunteer on a Wednesday, as part of the role is to follow the van around to the different sites and help unload. This is NOT essential but please let us know if you are willing to drive as part of the role.
What will I gain?
First hand experience of how a food bank operates, and a glimpse of the current scale of food poverty. Meet other like-minded volunteers and help S6 Foodbank to support local families in crisis.
Training and support
Support and guidance will be provided by staff and volunteers on site.
Sessions are on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in May and June 9am-1pm.
You can sign up for one or two sessions and if you enjoy it, there are opportunities for regular volunteering.
