We're a contemporary art gallery specialising in new media, performance and moving image. We have regular exhibitions, workshops and events involving people of all ages, particularly families. We offer regular volunteering on our front of house and projects across all our departments.

Front of House Volunteer 2019/20

This opportunity takes place until 31 Aug 2020.

Our volunteers are the first face that visitors see. We’re always looking for help with our exhibitions, reception and shop as a Front of House Volunteer. The role includes visitor welcome, admin, stewarding exhibitions and assisting with shop sales. For those keen to broaden their experience there are project opportunities such as helping our curatorial and technical teams, or with the marketing department. We also have frequent events in partnership with cultural organisations, other galleries and projects such as City of Ideas. These are great opportunities if you’re interested in festivals, event management and community initiatives.

What skills do I need?

Full training is provided but basic admin experience would be useful. Really it's about being happy to talk to visitors about their experiences of art exhibitions and make them feel welcome.

What will I gain?

Our long-term volunteering is an ongoing conversation about your goals and what experience you are looking to gain. The core role is arts administration, helping with exhibition delivery, and visitor welcome, so would suit those looking to develop these skills. However there's more opportunities available, especially during our events which can be very different from our day to day operations. We also have projects working with technical, marketing, and curatorial staff.

Training and support

All volunteers are supervised by the Operations & Front of House Manager, and there is always a staff Duty Manager while the gallery is open. We offer training in our exhibitions, visitor experience research and the running of the shop and reception.

Time commitment

Up to you - we only ask that we see you a couple of times a month. Some of our volunteers vary their volunteering depending on academic commitments and we fully understand this.
