Would you like to volunteer in a Sheffield primary school?
We are looking for 'Number Heroes' to volunteer in local primary schools, helping children with their maths and number work, and encouraging the pupils who think they 'can't do maths.'
Be part of a team of superhero volunteers providing vital help to boost children's learning and providing classroom assistance in a school. Don't worry, you don't have to be studying maths or be a maths whizz! You just need to be confident with maths, have a positive attitude and be willing to learn the methods used to teach it in schools.
You will be asked to volunteer one morning (Tues, Weds or Thurs) a week for 6 weeks (Weeks 7-12).
Places will be filled on a first come, first served basis so don’t delay!
What skills do I need?
Confident English speaker.
Experience of working with children is not required. Project training will cover an introduction to working with primary school children.
What will I gain?
First hand experience of teaching and working with children in a school. Share your love of maths and inspire children to be confident with numbers.
Training and support
You will be required to attend two training courses - one on Child Safeguarding (online) and one about Schools Volunteering (various dates).
One morning a week for 6 weeks from Week 7-12 (w/c 8 Nov - w/c 13 Dec 2021).
It will be on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning (you can choose).
DBS (criminal records) check
Various primary schools across Sheffield. You will be allocated to a school.
Your team will organise a taxi and you will travel together to the school. Taxi costs will be reimbursed by Sheffield Volunteering.
