This is a great opportunity to make a difference to the lives of older people in our communities. Friendly Visiting involves volunteers visiting an elderly person on a regular basis and having a chat and a cup of tea and providing some welcome social contact.
Please note: due to current restrictions, this role is currently remote and befriending is done over the telephone. In the future when restrictions lift, you may be able to meet up with the older person you are matched with, if you wish.
What skills do I need?
Have a caring attitude, the ability to listen, must be reliable, ability to work unsupervised. There are also one-off opportunities to help out which can involve occasional emergency shopping, escorting someone to a hospital appointment, checking in on a person when they have been discharged from Hospital or helping to rearrange furniture to enable easier access in a property.
What will I gain?
Satisfaction in helping to address loneliness. Work experience. Work references.
Training and support
All volunteers are offered an induction course and occasional training events throughout the year. Staff are always available to give support and advice.
Daytime - evenings - weekend; flexible to suit you.
DBS (criminal records) check
We always try to place volunteers in their preferred geographical area. Currently could be remote.
Details are available from the Co-ordinator.
