Chula is a charity focussed on gender equality and we work to empower young women to take control of their own futures.

Artist/designer 2020/21 (recruitment on hold)

This opportunity takes place until 31 Aug 2021. Applications closed on 03 Nov.

Chula are looking for artistic and creative volunteers who are able to dedicate their time to provide training workshops for the girls and young women that we work with. We aim to provide opportunities for our beneficiaries to learn skills such as art, design, sewing and craft work and support them through their learning as they independently design, create and market a product which advocates for gender equality and women's empowerment. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers who could dedicate their time to train our girls in a particular skill and help them on their path to employment. Unfortunately recruitment for this role is now closed. Please check back in the future. We hope you can find another volunteering opportunity to suit you!

What skills do I need?

We are looking for creative and artistic volunteers who may be skilled in sewing, fashion design, jewellery design or product design. We also are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who enjoy working with young people.

What will I gain?

You will gain experience in working with disadvantaged young people, providing them with skills and support to help them reach their full potential. By helping our beneficiaries to design, create and market a unique product, you will also gain experience in managing a project and supporting a team. As Chula is a new charity, we want all of our volunteers to have opportunities and experiences of developing a start-up organisation and helping to shape its future.

Training and support

We will provide all of our volunteers with training in safeguarding and the code of conduct for working with our beneficiaries. As a team, we will always supervise the workshops and our staff will always be there to support and step in if needed. As a small team, we will offer our volunteers with one-to-one support and mentoring, helping them to get the best out of their experience with us.

Time commitment

We are looking for volunteers to provide 2-hour evening workshops once a month or so. We understand that this may not always be possible however, and so will always be flexible and understanding.
