The Slate Weekender is a four-day festival of visual art, music, spoken word, and performance showcasing the work of Black northern artists. We need help with an exhibition at Sidney and Matilda gallery. This would involve helping to interpret artworks for visitors and stewarding the gallery space. The exhibition includes photography, sculpture and video art.
There are also ticketed evening events and workshops which we can reserve spaces for if any volunteers are interested. There will be events in the square opposite Site Gallery with music and spoken word performances.
This role would be perfect for anyone interested in performance art, poetry, festival style events, theatre production, or events management. We would provide full training on the exhibition and it would be a good opportunity to try out arts volunteering for anyone new to it.

What skills do I need?
Happy to talk to anyone, knowledge of contemporary art not essential - it's all about talking to people about their ideas and experiences.
What will I gain?
The opportunity to find out more about Sheffield's cultural scene and its many mini festivals! This one is part of the City of Ideas project led by Site Gallery, which is about using public spaces in new ways. We partner with galleries, studios and individuals all over the city and it's a great way to meet people with similar interests. There will also be parties and events throughout the festival which volunteers are welcome to attend.
Training and support
We will provide a full induction, breaks and support on the day, as well as training on the artists and artworks in the exhibition. We provide up to £5 food or travel expenses.
