Action Tutoring supports young people facing socio-economic disadvantage to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment. This enables them to go on to further education, employment or training.

Volunteer Tutors - English or Maths 2021/22

This opportunity takes place between 13 Aug 2021 and 31 Aug 2022.

As a volunteer English or Maths tutor with us you will be able to select one of our partner schools and tutor either on the school premises or remotely. You will work with 1-3 pupils for an hour a week, across the course of a school term. Sessions are delivered on the school premises or online at the same time each week, so the opportunity can flexibly slot into university schedules. We provide all of our tutors with training and resources, and we will also process a DBS check for you.

Education in this country isn’t fair. If you are from a poorer socio-economic background, you are less likely to achieve academically than your peers. Volunteer as an English or maths tutor with us and you will be helping these young people reach their potential. You will be directly supporting them to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with grades that enable social mobility.

*After you have clicked ‘Register Your Interest’, you will receive an email with the next steps of your volunteering application for this role - follow this guidance*

What skills do I need?

We are looking students who want to support pupils to succeed. Through your experiences and help, you can inspire ambition in them. Enthusiasm for learning and the subject you're tutoring (English or Maths) is important (but you don’t have to be studying it for your degree). Experience working with young people is helpful but not essential.

What will I gain?

As well as developing essential skills and gaining valuable experience in the education sector, which looks impressive on your CV, volunteering will also provide a link between you and the youngest members of your community - empowering you to give back and make a difference. It’s a great way to make new friends and all volunteers have the opportunity to attend our tutor social events. Skills gained: - Leadership - Organisation - Teamwork - Communication - Listening
